Rustic Hand Hewn Polyurethane Faux Wood Ceiling Beams
Interior Installation: fauxwoodbeams 001
Artisan Craftsman first Person Perspective
I've been making decorative ceiling beams for nineteen years, and I still get a little thrill when a client sends me a photo of a finished install where nobody can tell the beams aren't solid oak. This particular profile - the rustic hand-hewn look - started life as a response to a complaint we kept hearing from homeowners: every 'rustic' beam on the market looked like it rolled off a cookie cutter. So we went back to the workbench, pulled out the actual chisels and gouges we use for our mold prototypes, and started cutting the master pattern by hand. The master takes about three weeks to complete. Once it's done, we cast every beam from that single original, which is why no two pieces are absolutely identical - and that's the point.

Behind the Craft
The mold carving alone costs more than most competitors spend on an entire product line. We use it because shallow texture dies out under raking light - and that's the test that exposes fake beams faster than anything. When sunlight comes in at a low angle through a west-facing window, every imperfection in the surface tells a story. Solid wood tells a story of growth rings and weather. Our beams tell a story of a craftsman who spent a Saturday afternoon with a mallet and a weathered chisel, working a piece of red cedar that would never become anything else.
Export & Logistics
For our overseas distributors, the hand-hewn profile ships flat-packed in reinforced crates with edge protectors. We've had zero in-transit breakage in the last thirty-six months because the closed-cell structure absorbs impact without denting. Container loads typically run 1,800 linear feet of 6"x8" beams per 40HQ, which keeps landed costs competitive even after the duty applied in some markets.
Practical Tip
If you're specifying these for a vaulted ceiling, order one piece three inches longer than your measured run. Field trimming is straightforward with a standard fine-tooth handsaw - cuts cleanly without chipping the textured face - but you don't want to be six feet up a ladder trying to make a beam fit when it's two inches short.
